In the past 30 years I must have owned and sold at least a dozen different amplifier set-ups and about the same amount of guitars. This is what I have finally settled on. Guitars: Gibson 336, Fender Stratocaster 1961, Fender Keith Richards Telecaster (CIJ), Fernandes Strat' with Bill Lawrence pickups, Yamaha APXN (electric nylon strung), Yamaha LL11E (steel strung). Amplifiers: Rivera Amps, Tech 21 Trademark 60. Or will hire any combo with a good clean sound, preferably with valves. Effects: I have abandoned the digital route for analog pedals having spent an absolute fortune on rack mount gear in the 80's. I'm basically using a similar set-up that I used in the 70's.... back to square one! I use effects sparingly and tend to use pre-amp/gain pedals to achieve different sounds rather than use buckets of FX. I have recently been turned on to Xotic pedals, namely the BB Pre-amp for Marshall type tones and AC Booster for Mid-Gain tones. This basically means I have 3 'channels' to play with. I also use a Cry Baby Wah Wah, Morley Bad Horsie Wah, T-Rex Tremster, T-Rex CompNova, Digitech DDL. I also use Fulltone pedals. I use these pedals set-up on a Pedaltrain pedal board. I can plug this into any combo and not worry too much about my sound. Recording: Logic 8 on a iMac 24" 2.4GHz, Mackie preamps, Rode and AKG mics. Amplitube 2 guitar amp software. |
